A First! (hopefully not a last!)

Our Plebe-to-be son went to Hawaii for a week with another Plebe-to-be friend to enjoy these last days of freedom. This is his first flight EVER.

He entered our local city's airport and asked an airline employee for assistance finding his gate. (Should note here that for a year, son has had a VERY short haircut and was wearing an UnderArmour US Naval Academy shirt with an anchor necklace around his neck.)

The man looked at him, and extended his hand, saying "Young man, thank you for your service to this country."

Son was taken aback, and I know he wanted to say "Well, I'm not really...almost...will be..." but he paused, shook his hand and said "You are welcome. Thank you sir."

What a neat thing to surprise a young man, trying to prepare for I Day!

~Proud Mom

You'll be so stunned and proud over the coming years. We all have stories about incidents like yours ... our most recent was after picking up my Mid, and heading home and the mandatory quick-stop at Mickey D's ... his choice, not mine :( ... Several people about fell over themselves to get at him and offer their expressions of appreciation. Made his old man want to cry. Thank God for sun glasses!

When Bullet came home from Iraq a couple of yrs ago we took our kids out that night to dinner. Bullet was wearing a polo that was embroidered in corner with the initials OIF(operation Iraqi Freedom). When went to pay the bill, we found out someone had picked up our tab. They were sitting at the table next to us and realized that it was his first night home. I will never forget him saying it was the least he could do for everything our family already paid.

Thank your son from my family, please?
