Their photos are on the cards traded over at the elementary school, and their exploits are on the lips of the old men who gather at the Second Cup Cafe each morning. They are the sons and grandsons of this north Kansas town, and for 30 autumns now, the Smith Center Redmen have puffed up the chests of folks here.

They are a high school football team, a superb one that has won 51 games in a row and three consecutive state championships, and has outscored opponents this season, 704-0. They are more than that, however, to the 1,931 people here who all know one another’s names: The Redmen are proof that hard work and accountability still mean something....

This is an interesting article although it has nothing to do with service academies.

I showed a similar article to my son last weak. (When they were only at 640-0 points) LOL!!! My son is getting ready to play in the state championship game Tomorrow. It put things into perspective. No matter how good of a team you think you have, there's probably someone better out there. Even though this is my son's 3rd year in a row going to state, and they've come in 2nd the last two years and really want to finally win it in his senior year, he chuckled and said he was sure glad the Kansas team wasn't the team he had to play tomorrow. Sounds like this little Kansas town has their priorities, morals, and values right. It's a shame that in most communities if you try and promote such values, people complain and say that we shouldn't be establishing a set of values and morals. Thanks for the link.

Good luck to your son, Christcorp. You'll have to let us know the results!

Fencing is not football, shazamm... but my son beat the US National champ in a North American cup last January and it was a regular miracle. The Champ was very gracious to my son, and he'll never forget that. I hope your son and his teammates can pull off the win. There's no other feelingl ike it!

Well, my son's team did it. They won the State 5A Championship Football title. Plus my son hit a 47 yard field goal towards the end of the game to put the game out of reach. Final score, 24-14. He also went 43 for 43 on extra points this year.

Then, to top it all off, after he left to go to the game, the mail came. His APPOINTMENT OFFER arrived. The entire big butt envelope with all the forms and everything. I didn't tell him about it until the game was over. Didn't want him losing his focus. Anyway; one hell of a day. Later... Mike....

Christcopr,

Congratulations!!!
