A NJ state of mind--thanks in part to football

"'Everybody loves Rutgers now.'

And maybe even New Jersey."

w00t! Having a CA son who's just deposited at a school in NJ which is not Princeton, I'm really excited to hear this! :D (But having grown up in NJ, I always knew it didn't deserve to be the butt of all those jokes.)

RU rah rah
RU rah rah
Who rah
Who rah
Rutgers rah
Upstream red team
Red team upstream
Rah
Rah
Rutgers rah.

Boy what a stupid cheer, but fun when you are winning.

As one contributor says in his sig line on rutgers.rivals.com: "Rutgers Football - We don't suck anymore!"

....not too loud now..lets keep it a secret for us NJ folks for a while longer....

RU is an excellent school and a great choice for many in NJ. a large percentage of our high achieving HS seniors choose to attend RU every year!

GO RU!

We feel fortunate that Rutgers offers our son such a quality education at a(relatively) reasonable cost. We would love it if the instate cost were more in line with other state's cost of attendance. But considering the astronomical property taxes and housing costs here in NJ, it's not surprising that our state school's tuition would be up there also.

Son is enjoying the small school feel of Mason Gross School of the Arts and also the big school atmosphere (and football!) of RU. Great profs and opportunities at RU. Even nagivating the 'system' at RU has been smooth.
Great place!

My father sent me to old Rutgers,
And resolv'd that I should be a man;
And so I settled down,
In that noisy college town,
On the banks of the old Raritan.

(Chorus)

On the banks of the old Raritan (my friends)
Where old Rutgers evermore shall stand,
For has she not stood
Since the time of the flood,
On the banks of the old Raritan.

Then sing aloud to Alma Mater
And keep the scarlet in the van'
For with her motto high
Rutgers' name shall never die
On the banks of the old Raritan.

(Chorus)

On the banks of the old Raritan (my friends)
Where old Rutgers evermore shall stand,
For has she not stood
Since the time of the flood,
On the banks of the old Raritan.

I was just about to post that.....LOL....my old dorm Frelinghuysen truly was on the banks of the old Raritan....then there's "Nobody Ever Died for Dear Old Rutgers" from the Broadway musical High Button Shoes.....

"Nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers,
Nobody ever had a life to give
When you're clipped by someone in the rear
You hear a mighty cheer,
But you're laid up for a year.
So nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers
Strangely enough they simply want to live
The alumni won't admit it's true, but
Nobody ever died for Rutgers U.

Rutgers, Rutgers, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah

Nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers,
Giving away your life would be extreme
When the coach says smash the Princeton line,
His reasoning is fine,
But it's no good for your spine,
So nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers
But there's a lot of valor on the team
You can get a little black and blue, but
Nobody ever died for Rutgers U."

^^:)^^

My father attended and father-in-law went to law school at Rutgers. In my world everyone rooted for them. My FIL (ever the fiscal conservative) would take my husband as a little boy to football games after half-time when they would go in for free.

The RU faculty overall is outstanding. The fact that it is not super hard to get into right now is due more to other factors. It may not be that hard to get into but graduating is tough. Many state schools try to give as many kids as possible an opportunity to attend the state flagship and then get rid of those who are not serious. I'm sure you can document the rest of your rather third tier post.
