A Funny Special Skill?

On the Georgetown application it asks for any special skills or talents. I happen to be able to solve a rubik's cube pretty fast and I also have a real knack for winning radio contests. Do you think this is inappropriate or does it give me good character?

Yes, Georgetown wants to know about any special skill, including being able to solve rubik’s cube. However, that skill is becoming a bit less impressive these days (my son does that too). They’d also like that you’ve won radio contests, but that’s all relative. (as in, that depends on the level of questions). Do you have any other special talents? Be sure to describe sports, music, art, theatre, and awards in science and social studies.

just put it on, it couldn’t hurt

How does either relate to character?

Yes, those would work as a special skill or talent.

I meant like it would give me character as in make me unique.

As a fellow speed/blindfold cuber myself, I can say that you should definitely include it. It was also the subject of my main college essay, and it was something I brought to every college interview that I had. As long as you can use it properly to delve more deeply into your other skills/assets/mindset/character, go for it!

(Out of curiosity, what are your times?)

Is there a booklet or something that will show you how to solve it?

Yeah, it’s just a whole bunch of algorithms you have to memorize. I mean it doesn’t necessarily take much intelligence but I still think it’s an interesting skill and makes me seem less dense.
