Charlottesville police are investigating the death but do not believe foul play was involved.

I must be incredibly naive, but I can't think of any reason to explain this other than an alcohol/substance overdose. [Someone please offer an alternative.]

Uh, maybe he had a long time illness that got the best of him. Or something sudden came up. Not all athletes have perfect anatomies, and many have cardiac problems unknown to them for life until one day, during or after exercise, they suddenly keel over. Why do you automatically assume drugs/suicide?

It seems pretty harsh to automatically assume something other than natural causes. I'd hope that as a healthy young guy, if I keeled over at age 20 something, that the police would investigate, even if it was of natural causes.

There have been lots of incidents where football players collapse during or after practice. Russia is currently investigating this in its hockey players as so many young star players have died suddenly.

The prof in the class I attended with Will suggested that we might never know the cause/manner of death, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't suggest the worst possible scenario.

Got this update from my professor so I thought I'd share it.

I have learned that Will's funeral will be in New York this weekend, but there will be a memorial in January. I will let you know the specifics of that when I know.

While I do not care to elaborate, the cause of death is not a secret. It did not involve alcohol or drugs.

The UVA community has lost a special young man. I'm planning to attend the memorial next month.
