A good hook

I'm applying to USC and i was wondering if my 4 years of international modeling would be a good hook? and how do you calculate weighted and unweigthed Gpa? it just says 3.8 on my

wow..int'l modelling :D
sorry I can't help, but I'll bump this.

Having traveled widely must have broadened your horizons so that will reflect positively on you as an applicant. To calculate your gpa you can search online for a gpa calculator (I think csumentor.edu has one) or simply list all of your grades by semester, give yourself 4 points for each A, 3 points for each B, 2 points for each C, and 1 point for each D. Add these points together and divide by the number of classes. That will be your unweighted gpa. To get your weighted gpa, give yourself one extra point for all AP/IB classes.

Let's understand what a "hook" really is. A hook is when someone in the admissions department goes, "I really hope this kid has the credentials to get in, because we need her!" You can get that kind of response for being a top athlete, a top musician, a good musician for a much-in-demand instrument, a winner of a very prestigious award, and the like.

Then, there is a "tip." A tip is something that, all things being equal in the potential applicant pool, make an ad. officer say, "This kid brings something unique, like a unique experience of the world."

I think you have a strong tip, there.

great definition Tarhunt!
