A good minor to go with geology?

I am going to attend a state school and they require a minor along with their science majors. I am majoring in geology and need a minor that will help my career.

I am leaning towards Chemistry, but have also considered Physics and Environmental Science.

I would appreciate any advice, or any other suggestions that would be a good minor.

I think that a Geology major would benefit most from a minor in Physics. Geology majors who are strong in Geophysics seem to have particularly good prospects in the oil and gas industry.

A minor in another hard science might be a good idea if you already have plans to specialize. A physics or chemistry minor would be useful in geophysics, as suggested by Lemaitre1, but also in oceanography, petrology, geochemistry, any of the space sciences, etc.

However, don’t just limit yourself to looking in the hard sciences for a minor - this is an opportunity to broaden your future marketability. Interested in environmental public policy? Maybe add an IR or econ minor. Want a leg up on reaching management positions in industry? Try a business/finance minor. Lots of options here besides just the hard sciences.

Physics is the best minor for a Geology major.

Maybe ecomomics, especially if you’re considering the commodities side of geology.
