Does anyone know a good debate summer program. $$$$$ is not a concern as my son is receiving a grant from a gifted foundation to attend this program. I have come up with the following links http://www.snfi.org/06_req/index.html. I would appreciate if the place takes tke kids based on their debate skills rather than ability to pay. Thanks

There is one at Dartmouth.

Yale also had a summer debate program last year.

From Hoagiesgifted.org:
summer debate programs at Dartmouth, U of Vermont, U of Michigan and Baylor. There are probably others that will be listed on summer school catalogs once these come out.

There are a lot of summer programs out there. What kind of debate is your son interested in? The big ones are Policy and Lincoln-Douglas, but there's also many other types too. My son wanted a good program on Congress (again, another style of debate) and he went to the Florida Forensic Institute in Ft. Lauderdale last summer and loved it. They had a specific program just for Congress, but also did other types as well. As you are looking at programs, make sure you keep this in mind.

If he is in policy, DDI is probably the best, though very competitve in admission: http://debate.dartmouth.edu/workshops.php

I know people who have gone to michigan as well, and it's supposedly very good: http://www.michigandebate.com/

As for LD, the top 2 are probably NDF: http://www.nationaldebateforum.com/
and VBI: http://www.victorybriefs.net/webs/vbi05/index.html
plus, NSD is a new camp that most people expect great things from: http://www.nsdebate.com/

There is a discussion on LD camps that you might find helpful here: http://forum.lddebate.org/viewtopic.php?t=13084

I hope this helps.

I think there is a summer program at Bates College as well..

there is a debate camp set up by the IDEA organization.. and its really cool in that they visit another country, last year it was Estonia, so your son will get to explore another culture while debating. It's around two weeks I think, and for another two weeks you can visit Italy - i believe the debate camp there is called the Duino institute.

Here's the Johns Hopkins site which lists a lot of choices under the "Summer Programs for Debate"

My child attended Northwestern's National High School Institute summer program.
There are several divisions including Media, Theatre, Journalism, Music, and Coon-Hardy
Debate. The debate program is mostly for kids going into 11th and 12th grades and for a smaller number of rising sophomores. My child did not attend the Debate program. I felt that NHSI provided the right amount of class vs free time. The students had very structured days with some evening activities but also time to explore Evanston before curfew.

Georgetown has one. Ask your child's debate coach for suggestions, too.
