Hello All,
My son is in freshman year and looking for some good debate camp in summer. Could somebody guide me for that ?
We live in Texas .
My S was involved in debate and forensics in HS. One of his friends attended a summer camp at Bradley University (Peoria, IL) while in HS and later ended up attending Bradley on a scholarship and working there as a camp counselor.
Your school or state debate association might have a listing of camps they recommend.
What kind of debate is he interested in? I’d ask the coach at his high school. A good and reasonably priced one in the Southwest is: http://swsdi.org/
You can find a list by going on mysummeradvisor.com, academic programs, speech and debate. There are a good number, but not overwhelming. Any major college or university will have a good camp.
If he’s interested in policy, Berkeley runs a good camp every summer.
It depends on what event your S is interested in. Northwestern U’s National High School Institute will be a great choice for policy and public forum debate.
If he does Lincoln Douglas, the National Symposium for Debate has a program specifically for students in Texas.
I would highly recommend Dartmouth Debate Institute, I went there last summer and loved it!
@wellthinker what debate camp did he go to in the end? Is your son continuing to do debate this next year?
