Hey everyone….like my name says I Love UC Merced, and I just wanted to say that I think most of you are wrong!

I am a recent transfer to UC Merced; you see I am little bit older than your average undergrad. I am very proud to say that I have paid every dime of my college education (with some help from financial aid). I spent many years attending Community College. I got excellent grades, but it did take me a little longer to graduate because I was working full time. When I finally sent out my transfer applications, I got accepted to every UC, including Berkley. I was totally taken by surprise; I had never seriously considered these schools.
Well, I was completely excited, until I started getting financial aid offers from each. The grant and scholarship aid for each one was completely pathetic. I would have to put myself in considerable debt, in order to attend…..especially Berkeley’s offer, it was the worst. So, I was all set to go to a CSU, but then I got UC Merced’s offer….WOW! All the tuition, all of the fees, and half the housing was covered…best part was that there were no loans. Seriously, when I did the math it was cheaper to go to UC Merced and live on campus, than it was to go to a cal state and live off campus.

Thank You UC Merced! I have loved every minute, have gotten excellent grade, enjoyed the small classes, and have enjoyed all of my professors (and TAs).

Growing up in Merced, I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing interesting in the town. That is unless your idea of a fun weekend is Starbucks and the movie theater. Go to a CCC and transfer. I went to Merced College and transferred to UCSD rather than selling my soul to UCM. WITH THAT SAID, I hope the future will actually be relatively bright for UCM because it gets tiring reading all the bad things that are said about my hometown.

I didn't apply to Merced and would not choose to go there, but this was an informative post. Answered some questions that I've wondered about UCM.

I think there is an honors program… And I asked about transfering majors and I was told it was not hard at all because of the small student population.

I totally agree with Premed4life. This is why I chose to live off campus instead of the dorms in UCM. (BUT I LOVE THE DORMS. 1st phase dorms) We know that Merced is kinda boring during the weekends and that is why we shop in Modesto and Fresno and party hard in the Bay.

I not sure about the Shared Experience Program. But I can tell you the situation that one of my classmate have when he transferred to UCLA. He was a freshmen at UCM 05 and transfer to UCLA at Fall 07. The transfer was easy because he had good standing (above 3.0 gpa) and did undergraduate research but, he wasn’t in Jr. standing at UCLA. It seems that he had to take other courses for UCLA for upper division requirements. Now he is one year behind us UCM students. Lesson learn from this is: before you transfer talk to your transferring school and see if you meet their requirements for admission but, also their upper division courses. Not all school has the same requirements.

I applied to UCM and wanted to know how easy it is to start a club? I think that forming a club would be a great way to find people who share your same ideas and surround yourself with people you could enjoy some good times with.

Also, How has the housing gotten? I have read on other threads that its getting a bit more crowded and most people get triples? Is this right or jus malarky? I wouldnt mind either way just want to know.

Great idea sergione. Although I’ve never set up a club myself, I hear the process is as easy as filling out a form. Of course, you would have to draft your own club constitution, get representatives into the appropriate committees, such as ICC, but other than that, the process should be relatively hassle free.

Dear UC Merced PR people:
I would just like to point out how obvious you are being on this thread. Two posts, each with a username of Iheartmerced, each user having made one post, and each post glowing with excessive praise of the school. I guarantee you no one is fooled by that.

Suggestion: If you want to create a fake uc merced student account, give the account a normal name, post a few times, and don’t sound exactly like a college brochure. Then, we might be more likely to believe you. Even students who love the school surely can at least sympathize with the ones that don’t, or realize why certain things that bother other people don’t bother them. And they don’t write like college brochures.

I say this not because I particularly care if anyone goes to merced or not ( I am an applicant who may go) but a.) it doesn’t give me a good impression of the school if the only praise I find is so obviously fake and b.) really, you’re getting paid to make those posts, and I think it’d be better if you were paid to actually do your job.

Very well put Neolin. Those posts were fishy from the start. I am going to Merced and I came on here to get a better view of the school from the students there…good or bad. I didnt need to feel like I was reading the front of the UCmerced webpage.
