A little bit of advice...

I took the ACT for the first time in June. I scored a 34 composite, with no prep. I did, however, prep for the SAT extensively. I didn't take the test with writing, because all the colleges I was thinking about applying to required either the ACT or SAT writing, and you could use either test beyond that.

Now, I want to apply to a top ten university in my field of study that requires that ACT tests have the writing score to even be valid. Not only will they not superscore, they will not even look at the ACT I just took.

So, I guess I need to retake with the writing. I'm nervous, because even though I got that 34 (and it was a high 34, one subject point away from 35) I don't know if I can get it again!

On the one hand, I think with a little bit of ACT specific prep, I have a very good chance at a 35, and a decent chance at a 36, I know that next time I take it, I will probably be a bit more nervous than the first time, because the first time I didn't really even care, my SAT scores mattered more.

What do you guys think?

Just take the ACT again. You'll be fine.

Wow. I'm literally in the exact same boat as you. I'm planning to retake the ACT + writing and hope I can get another 34 :(

Hah, Highopes, that's weird! Because I really hope I can pull another 34! I mean, I did get a high 34 this time, like a 34.25 or something, but still.... what if it was just the "right test for me"?

Everyone here says the science was much harder than usual.... but who knows?

Yeah, my scores ended up at exactly 34, but I can't help but feel like I got really lucky on reading (36? where did that come from?) and I won't be able to compensate next time. Stupid me, not taking the writing.
