A long shot?

Well, I have always wanted to attend the service academies, and now, the applicants are decreasing since the war in Iraq. I applied, and I hope I can get in despite any high school sports, although I played hardcore club soccer. Here is some basic info.

3.91 High School GPA
1890/2400 SAT-630 630 630 12 on essay
Club Sports- Basketball, Al Kaffodio and Red Divison soccer, Legion baseball, Captain Paintball team
Jobs- Kaizan, Target
Clubs- CSF, German Club, Co-Founder Paintball

Well, it's a skeleton of a resume, meaning that without additional information, it is just too hard to tell. How many years at these things? What positions of leadership? What district are you from? Minority status/ sex etc.? I would keep trying on the SAT/ACTs and try to get them way over 600 on each section. I would say you have a shot, but not knowing those other factors makes it hard to predict. Then again, sometimes it is a crap shoot anyway. :)

Hey thanks for the reply.

Well, I have played sports my whole life, but mostly at the club sport type of level. I'm from a really good school, in CA district 10. I know with my stuff I am not a lock, but with the war in iraq and reduced applicants I am hoping to be an average or solid candidate.

jd,

Although there are fewer applicants, there are still many highly qualified individuals going through the process. California is very competitive and you will need to look at your own qualifications rather than hope to get in because there may be extra slots available.

If attending a service academy is something you have always wanted to do, then prep well for your SAT retake. The thinking used to be that you needed a score in the 1300's to be noticed and in the 1400's for real attention. That would mean at least 1950 on the new SAT. If you're not happy with the results then take them over again. Also, try the ACT.

Is your gpa weighted or unweighted?

Best of luck to you!!

jd888,
After 9/11 there was a spike in the number of applications to all of the US Service Academies. This year applications have returned to normal levels for the first time since 9/11. On the other hand, I do believe that the war in Iraq has negatively affected Army recruiting and enlistment.

I just remeber hearing that the number of applicants has been reduced signifficantly.

Anyways, the gpa is weighted, I've taken 2 AP and 1 honors class so far.

thanks for the help
