A lot of SAT questions! Please help!

So I am really determined to get a 2200+ on the SAT, but I need all the advice I can get. I know no one in my school or in my district who has scored that high on the test, so I am posting here for some answers from the experts.

First off, now I am getting a score around 2000, and my math part is the strongest (miss only 1 sometimes 2 a section), but my CR and Writing scores could improve. I think I can do well for the essay, but I can't really grade it myself.

So for the question, I need lots of practice tests, and official ones for that matter. Is it true the only ones are: blue book (8 ), cb online course (6), cb free download test (1), buyable psat's, and the (you know, leaked qa. tests). If this is correct, do you think this is enough to use for practice? And when practicing, should you practice on individual sections timed, or all of the sections back to back (like in a practice test)?

Also, I have studied and perused Rocket Review, Grubers, and both direct hits books. I think all of this might be good, esp. since my math is almost perfect. How can I study just the hardest math questions (is there a book that can be used for this?). For the CR and Writing, I am missing more than I like but I think I can gradually get better at this as I start to apply the right techniques more and more. Should I get any other review books for CR and Writing?

I am thinking of getting tutoring, but I am not sure, esp. if taking tests by myself would be more beneficial. What would be your opinion on this?

Lastly, I am thinking about taking the SAT in the beginning of my Junior year since I will have had all summer to study eruditiously. Is this a good idea?

Thanks to anyone who answers some of my questions. I would greatly appreciate it.

Besides what you’ve already mentioned, I would recommend the Kaplan SAT/ACT/PSAT preparation computer program. My experience has been that this program helps students hone in on the areas where they need the most help – plus it has a number of full length tests and additional practice sections that are of comparable difficulty to the real SATs.

To answer your questions:

 1. Those are all the official new SAT ones, but you can also buy 10 Real SATs for more critical reading/sentence completion practice from the old SAT.
 2. You should do both. I find that for the most part taking sections individually is more convenient (and you learn better in small bursts). However, you should take 1-2 as a full practice tests to get used to the endurance aspect.
 3. I don’t think there’s a book of the hardest math questions, but it sounds like you’re doing okay anyway. Just make sure to write down and later check up questions you’re unsure about.
 4. I don’t think review books will be that helpful for your CR and Writing. The material they contain is largely useless I’ve found. Check out http://■■■■■■■■■■■■ if you want some good strategy help on CR and Writing.
 5. To me it sounds like you’re extremely self-motivated and tutoring will not do much.
 6. Taking it early junior year is a good idea. You’ll be fresh from summer study and leave yourself plenty of time to study and retake if you choose to pursue that option.

If you have more specific concerns, ie specific sections or question types on the SAT that you have trouble with, feel free to PM or post here. Hope I helped you
