A&M Engineering and Political Science

Chief Pablo here.

I’ve been admitted to A&M for its engineering school but I am becoming worried. If I’m being honest, I’d like to major in political science or international studies, but I was reluctant to apply for these majors because of the job instability. I would most surely like to attend law school and work in foreign policy, though I’m worried I won’t get in, which is why I applied for engineering to have a “back up career”. Is there a way that I can double major in engineering and political science, or at least take classes in both majors to get a feel of each career path?

@Chief134 Hey Chief, Call the university tomorrow about changing majors. Freshman year, you will be required to take the freshman engineering core curriculum, which is 3 classes each semester. You will need at least one more class to be full time and have 12 hours. Depending on the classes you want to take, you may be able to take some of the history of political science classes. My engr son is interested in taking SOCI 325/ASIA 325 International Business Behavior in fall and he’s not an international studies major.
The major sounds fascinating. Engr is not easy and harder still if it isn’t something you are passionate in pursuing, esp if you don’t get into a major you want. While not engineering but in the College, IDIS on an international scale, like perhaps a minor if they offer it, might interest you.
