a maddening experience

This might be a long post so i apologize for that, just want to give everyone a clear picture of what happened. if you manage to read the whole thing, you have my thanks but if not i dont blame you lol so basically what happened was i was getting a iphone restore mesage when i had 3.2.1 firmware, updated it to 4.2.1 and my wifi completely went out as in the wifi option was greyed out and it said "no wifi". so at this point i'm thinking it could be a hardware issue and i could simply just take it to a technician and get it repaired. started looking on craigslist and found this: ¨hIPHONE STUCK ON ITUNES REPAIR,APPLE LOGO,NO WIFI, BAD SIGNAL!!!. so i call them and they inform me that they do indeed do a free diagnostic before doing any work so i figure great can't find any other place that does a free diagnostic so i head out to the shop, on the way there i got a little lost since i haven't been in that area so i call them again for directions and ask them again about the free diagnostic just to be sure and they say yes we do. so i get there, hand the guy (he looked to be middle eastern, persian maybe?) the phone. bear in mind i've dealt with middle easterns before when it coems to business as in car mechanic (lied and told us the brake line was leaking and suggested we get it done thru him asap since it could pose as a lethal hazard on the road, turned out it was just a mix of water + brake dust taht had somehow gotten on there) and a couple of others. so i give him the phone and inform him of my no wifi problem after the update and again ask that they perform this "free" diagnostic. the guy replies with "i'm not sure what it could be, it could be either hardware or software issue, or a bit of both, holdup lemme take this in the back check it out". maybe i misinterpreted his words but to me that sounded alot like he was just going to troubleshoot/diagnose the problem. so he goes in the back and hes in there for a while like 20 minutes and i ask the lady in the front i have a question for him. he comes up and i ask him what he's diong and he says he's updating it to 4.3! considering i had a jailbroken phone and i know there isn't a jailbreak for it yet, and therefore i personally didn't want to upgrade it to 4.3, as such i respond by telling him that i was under the impression that he was "diagnosing" it not actually trying to fix it without telling me what was wrong/how he was going to fix it. he responds with "im trying to fix the problem and if it works ill have to charge you $50 for the service" so at this point i think to myself why pay this guy $50 for something i myself could do and dont want to do it anyways. so i tell him i don't want it to be upgraded to 4.3 and i ask him why hes doing that without asking me, at which point he gets mad at me and says "i'm trying to fix the mistake that you made just take a seat and ill try and fix it, im not worried about the $50 its just $50" ? he may have multiple $50 bills lying around in his house/wallet but not all of us can just hand over $50 for something that's not even guaranteed to work. ok so at that point from what i understood, this guy had no clue what he was doing, just applying the basic solution of "upgrading the firmware" and charging me out of the ass for something i can do myself. so i promptly told him i want the phone back to the firmware and condition that i had brought it into the store in, to which he * me that he can't do that since my imei/modem firmware would be restored as well and he would charge me for the jailbreak as well.

at that point i got a little upset myself and asked him again why on earth he would firstly perform any work on the phone without asking me and giving me a price. and now he has the audacity to charge me for the jailbreak as well incase his solution doesn't work. bearing in mind he said all this in raised/impatient tones. i've worked in retail long enough to know that blaming the customer or talking to them in raised/impatient tones with a frown on your face doesn't translate into good service or a happy customer. so he agreed to just upgrade it and see if it would work free of charge. so at that point, as hes restoring it to 4.3, the manager (at least i assumed it was him given the attire he was wearing composing of button down shirt with dress pants) walked into the store and went into the back room to chat with the guy while he was working on the phone. i asked the lady up front if that guy was the maanger and i instantly knew she was lying to my face when she said no, adn told me the guy who was "fixing" my phone was the store manager as well. i dont know if she didnt want him to get in trouble cuz she was sleeping with him or whatever but what even further confirmed my suspicion was i saw the guy leave the store and come back with a boxful of new phones, saw him go into the back with them. so at that point, i was really just bewildered at the way these people run their business by scamming and lying. so anyways after informing me that it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes of so, i end up waiting for almost an hour and in that time duration i was just pacing the store furious, and started talking to another customer that had walked in and since i wanted to vent a litle i asked him casually if he was gettin work done on his iphone to which he replied nope are you and i went off on a rant tellin him what happened, at which point the guy came out onto the front of the store and started "asking me politely not to badmouth their customers and if i do it again he would ask me to leave th store". i informed him understandably that i was a little upset and so was he and agreed to stop, as i realized i was overstepping my boundaries as a customer.

so after about 10 more mins he used his common sense and came back out to give me a status update at this point and said he couldn't restore it to 4.3, said the phone is completely dead, and that hell try and downgrade it to 4.1 (one firmware below what i had it on when i brought it in). considering that i had no other options at that point other than walking out with a dead phone, i told him to go ahead with it, waited another 30 minutes he came back out, handed me the phone and i checked the firmware/wifi, which was fixed i could connect to a wifi. for a minute there i felt bad considering that i gave him such an attitude and in the end he fixed the phone free of charge, even with a lower firmware than before. so i walked out, on the way home, the iphone restore message came on, when i got home i restarted the phone, wifi connectivity was back. then after 10 mins showed the restore message and phone turned itself off and ever since everytime i turn it on now it doesn't give me wifi. so were back to square one with the phone. sorry for the long post guys just wanted to explain everything so i could get a fair verdict on what i did was right or wrong and what you guys would have done. any input is appreciated, thanks
