1) iPhone IMO. Just wait until June 7th when Apple holds their WWDC keynote. There’s a 99.9999999999999% chance that Steve Jobs will announce the new iPhone then, and it should ship right around then as well.

2) 18 I think. Just a tip: if you get an interview, talk about how you love interacting with people and how you want to provide an excellent, no-pressure customer service experience. Tell them that if some little old lady walked in asking “what’s a good computer” that you’d point her to something low end (assuming she just wants to surf the web and such) and not try to sell her a Mac Pro or something utterly expensive and unnecessary like that.

See I’ve heard the rumors as well, but that is an expedited and early release of the 4G don’t you think? For Apple at least. You’re confident that WWDC will bring the new one? How long would I have to wait for it to ship?

Well, for the past 3 years they’ve always announced the new iPhone (and released it) at the WWDC conference. Plenty of supposed prototypes have surfaced, and Apple has apparently removed the ability to buy the iPhone 3G from their online store (and Walmart is now pricing the 3GS at $100 as opposed to $200). I’ve also heard that places are no longer ordering stocks of the iPhone 3G.

So yeah, the chances of the fourth-gen iPhone being announced are pretty damn high. As for shipping, it depends. The original came out at the end of June (WWDC is always before the end, usually at the beginning). The 3G came out in July. The 3GS came out in June. So we’ll see.

Ok, I’m impatient haha so…we’ll see if I last. I heard about the Wal-mart thing. They are selling the 3Gs as of today, in-store, for $97 if I am correct.

Make sure ATT service is good in your area. My son had an iphone and while the phone is great, the ATT service in his college area STUNK. The last straw was when he was driving home, got a little lost, and tried to call home for confirmation of directions. It took him more than a dozen times to get the call to go through without it dropping. After about 10 months of crappy ATT service, he figured the iphone wasn’t worth the frequency of dropped calls so he switched back to Verizon and got a Blackberry.

So, ask around and find out how the service is in the area around your college. If the ATT service stinks in your area, it’s not worth getting the iphone.

NYSmile makes a good point. Try out this coverage map to see the REAL coverage in an area, not the official coverage maps that are always spun to make the company look good. It’s not available for all areas but if your area’s there (as well as your school) give it a go:

The guy that sold me my iMac had a four-year science degree. Getting a job at an Apple Store isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do and they expect you to already have experience.

He probably makes more selling computers than he would in his field with an undergraduate degree. The store had 1,000 applicants for 60 positions in a recession. They’re probably going to get a fair number of applicants with degrees.

I don’t think they pay by commission. If what you said still holds true with that in mind, then that either means the Apple Store rolls in money or science jobs ****ing suck in terms of pay.

Where I work there were 1,800 applicants for 180 positions. A few of them do have degrees. But the job pays $10/hr at the entry level. If the folks with degrees are making more than they would in their field w/ a degree, they picked the wrong major!

He had an undergrad biology degree from the state flagship.

A wife of a friend has a Phd from Columbia and had a very tough time finding a job. She got some work reviewing papers for a publisher and considered going to law school. He seems to be enjoying his work at the local Apple Store. My guess is that the career path for those working in Apple Stores to management level pays fairly well. I read about a price war for Apple Store managers to work in Microsoft Stores a year or two ago.

Apple’s sales are about $4,300 per square foot (2009), about five times what Best Buy does. Apple’s stores bring in an insane amount of revenue.

Ok, I just checked it. I’m headed to Villanova and I typed in their given zip code. At around 85-90% signal. Perfectly within 3G data coverage. I’m with ATT. Verizon is somewhat comparable, though its data is behind ATT. Sprint is bad. T-Mobile is just plain awful. I think the ATT plan will work just fine.

Any thoughts on if I should wait until June 7 when the 4G iPhone is “expected” to be released? Or just get it now?
