We keep going around and around on the issue of whether or not to reveal LD's to admissions offices. We have heartening anecdotes from students who revealed and were accepted. We have scary stories of students who revealed to colleges one assumes would otherwise have accepted them, but weren't accepted. We have people with the attitude that they don't want to attend any school that doesn't have an admissions dept. that embraces them exactly as they are. We have me, absolutely convinced that it's a bad idea to reveal unless the revelation explains a now-repaired problem that shows up on the transcript -- a conviction that is based on no data whatsoever...

So here is my idea: Let's try to get more data together in one place. If you (or your child) revealed an LD during the application process, and if it won't destroy your privacy, could you please post the names of the colleges involved? If you wanted to share the kind of thing you revealed, and whether the info came from you or from your GC, that would be great too. (And to posters who have already shared this kind of info, thank you so much!)

Also, for students wondering if they should reveal to XYZ tippy top college, or will that ruin their chance to be accepted, how about going on the CC board for XYZ tippy top college and asking if there are students there who revealed and were accepted, and reporting back here?

I'm going to the Parent Board right now and asking for info. Inquiring minds want to know.
