Being from an area where we only just got a Chipotle and a 5 Guys last year, I never even heard of Chik-Fil-A until d1 went to college in Virginia. Exotic! When d2 went off to Vanderbilt in 2005, having a Chik-Fil-A participate on the Commodore card was considered a real plus - it was even mentioned on the tour. I went once and would probably call it the best fast food experience of my life. Immaculate restaurant, very competent staff, and I loved the chicken strips.

I’m not religious, and it doesn’t at all bother me to patronize businesses that promote religious values. But it would bother me to patronize businesses that promote an anti-gay agenda, which is not the same thing. It’s too important an issue to me to put money in that company’s coffers, even though I realize that my refusal to shop or eat at those businesses makes no difference to them at all. (I’m still boycotting Nestle, which has apparently made zero difference to Nestle over the past 3 decades.) It’s a personal decision. If I didn’t know about Chik-Fil-A’s record on gay rights, or Nestle’s record on promoting infant formula in impoverished countries, I’d still be buying their stuff.

I’m surprised this thread has lasted as long as it has here instead of being moved to the Cafe.
