A Poll of Parents of Seniors

Wish.....let him take what he wants to take, but I guarantee when you start getting some pictures you'll see that they "actually clean up pretty nice". LOL. My CaneGuy, who sounds just like yours when he was a freshman, has some friends who've taught him where and how to shop, and what to shop for when going out on the town in Miami. Something else to remind him of for Miami.......rain gear.

Thanks Gracilisae, Cangel and 1tcm - Sounds like Gracil... likes the clothes Cangel describes too. I will email that description to S. Actualy S cleans up pretty well, and having worked for a few summers at Nordstrom, he does know what to wear besides t-shirts. I am sure he will take more clothes with him than he lets on.

But birkenstocks? Really? I thought that was just us NW types who wear them to dress up. (Once went to a Bar Mitzvah and the Bar Mitz dad was in a suit and his birks!) How about other sandals? Will that wreck the picture? - except for D, this family's feet don't do real well in birks....

I didn't realize I had become a fashion maven! I honestly think they look a little silly in Birks and a blazer, but I have seen it! And I'm not talking about the sandal Birks, I'm talking about the cloggish kind. As for other sandals ?flip flops maybe. I'll try to get DD to answer.

Wishitwas_april, if he's worked at Nordstrom's, I'm sure your son does know what to wear. :)

Wish and Cangel, shoes-wise, guys around here are definitely guilty of wearing the Birk clogs with their shorts + blazers (this is in the Midwest by the way), but they also wear Topsiders - boat shoes - with the same sort of outfit for a somewhat dressier option. Being able to sail is definitely not a requirement to owning a pair, either, although I do live in a heavily sailing-oriented community. Guys usually stick to the brownish kind while girls get the colored kind (pink, mint green, etc.).

soozievt - that will not be tears "welling up" for your family, that will be full-fledged waterworks! I wish I could hear it... let's see.... about a 5 hour drive? Maybe you'll record it and link, a la frecklybeckly?

Ooh too funny, DD reports that guys don't wear Topsiders here, no matter what the color. And she goes to prep central in this area. Maybe it's a temperature thing here, mostly the weather's too hot for "real shoes" if you are a casual guy.
They do wear boots at the huntin' camp, barefoot on the boat, maybe Tevas or slides if fishing for something that might fin you.

So, what do kids wear under their graduation gowns???

Is anyone else a wee bit uncomfortable with the 'high fashion' birkies I see being sold- you know, the ones in colors not found in nature!

Wow, what a range of reactions to the big upcoming event!

I shake my head when I read about seniors "pulling straight As", "focused to the end", "shopping", "glued to the school web site", etc. Not mine!! He is as laid back as ever, with an acute case of senioritis. But he is looking forward to life in Florida :)
