A positive public school experience

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in eighth grade and I'm choosing between a public school and a private school for high school. Can anyone share their positive experience at public school? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Not all public/private schools are the same, obviously.
You’re lucky to have a choice in where to go to school, so I’d encourage you to look at the following things at each school to determine which one would be the best for you and your future:

 • Location/distance/convenience
 • AP/honors courses offered
 • Extracurricular activities offered
 • Number of students and student/teacher ratios

Do not forget to look at the environments at the schools (if you have the opportunity)
Do they offer what you are looking for?
Which school can help you to develop your abilities?

How much does the private school cost? In my experience, going to a private school isn’t necessarily better than going to a public school. Of course, I attend a decent, A rate public school that offers many AP classes (almost all of them, excluding certain languages), has excellent athletic and extracurricular programs, and receives a good amount of funding. This year our seniors got into Harvard, MIT, UPenn, Duke, etc etc. At my school there really isn’t any of that Mean Girls stereotypical toxic environment. My school has like 3,000 kids though so I just surround myself with amazing people I like to spend time with.

There are some things I don’t like about my school, but they are very minor complaints compared to the school as a whole. I love my school, but you really have to look at each school individually. If they are comparable then I’d say save that money that would be spend on the private school for college.

Be sure to look at test scores as well! The public school in my area offers many AP courses, but their scores on every standardized test are significantly lower than the private school. From what I hear, when their students get to college they are not prepared.

I’m going to say it bluntly IMO, go with the public school as long as it is not health hazardous. For me, you truly do not experience the true diversity of high school at a private school as fully as you would a private school. Plus, it’ll save you valuable savings you can use for other things, including college.
