I am very sorry that this topic really isn't about law school so to say. However, it does have to do with criminal justice and I thought that many of you would probably carry a criminal justice degree, so I thought that you may be able to answer my question...

Anyway I am currently in college but am trying to get a job that will help me to pay my way. So what I did was that I am now taking a security guard class. However, I have a big problem and it may eliminate me from obtaining a security license. I have PTSD and I have had it for a long time. I have struggled to live with this illness but it costs a lot of money to treat. For a while I wound up having such a bad case of PTSD that I just could not work as well and I struggled to survive. I even applied for disability but I was denied. Last summer I went and saw a hypnotist (by taking out a boatload of college loans) and he hypnotized me and taught me several meditation techniques to relax. My PTSD is still a bad problem in my life, but I believe that I am now at least able to work. I want to see a professional psychiatrist but they cost so much money that I can't afford it!

I have looked and looked and there don't seem to be very many job options that will get you up to $10 or more very quickly with minimal training, that also provides a consistent 40 hours, and health insurance. So what I did find was security and I found out that could take a 40 hour course and become a licensed security guard. I should also note that I have no intention of obtaining a G license to carry a gun because I think that if my company found out that I had a G license and had PTSD, then they would probably fire me.

Anyway, so I was taking the first course today, and the instructor went over the fact that you can't have any misdemeanors or felonies on your record, and that you have to have a clean criminal history. All that is fine with me because I have no criminal record and have never even been arrested. However, then he said that you have to be in perfect mental health to do the job.

This actually scared me because I have PTSD and it is a recorded illness that I have. I even applied for disability for it twice and was denied twice! I have never been hospitalized though. The instructor said that they do a VERY EXTENSIVE background check on you before they give you a security license. Will this keep me from obtaining a license? Will it be easy for them to find out that I have PTSD? I will not be carrying a firearm so I'm not sure if that will impact the situation as well. Am I going to get disqualified?
