So I'm thinking about self-studying for one, maybe two AP exams this year and I just wanted some clarification on a question that I had.

Do I have to officially tell a counselor or anybody else that I intend to self study for these exams? I have looked around threads and seen that everyone seems to talk to there counselors about it, but I don't see why I would NEED to tell them.

Thanks for the help in my thread. Yes, you’ll need to tell them. It’s for notification purposes I guess. Depending on your school you could just sign up for the exam without telling them anything.

They wouldn’t let me do it at first, because I’m a sophomore…

If they refuse to let you self-study, speak to the main principal. If he/she refuses as well, opt to take it elsewhere.

You’ll have to sign up and pay for the exams around Jan./Feb. or before March, I think.

Thanks for the response. I’ve never done this before and I don’t think many people in my school do so I have no idea what my schools policy is if they even have one. I’ll probably just talk to my counselor about it to make sure its okay.

And my school has us sign up around December so Ill definitely do it by then.
