since you have more life experience than most students.

For one of my ECs, I participate more frequently in the summer and made note of that on my application. However, the facility does not keep very good records and may not be able to confirm my hours (especially since they just changed coordinators) if the adcoms happened to have a question when reviewing my app to check my final report with my past grades. Would this be an issue that could warrant getting rescinded? I don't know how I'd confirm it since the staff has changed so much...

Not sure how you can confirm it for the past few summers, but you can have your supervisor/advisor sign off on your hours for this summer. That’s what my D does for her community service.

Yeah, I can definitely confirm the hours I will do this summer, they have a new system that is actually pretty reliable that started a few weeks ago. The issue is more the past summers that I mentioned on my app.

And a new staff member would simply state that they don’t keep good records and she doesn’t know personally. It’s not a big deal. If the hours are genuine, report them. Lots of small not for profits have small staff with turnovers. Not a problem and they are unlikely to get a call.

I don’t think anyone ever confirmed the hours for either my daughter or my son’s EC’s (one at the zoo and the other at children’s hospital). I wouldn’t fret and I really would doubt that you would be rescinded.

Thanks, everyone. I’m just a little nervous because I already had to fix a typo with this EC (for the number of hours, I lowered what I had mistakenly written, I had written a range, changed it just a number but accidentally put just the higher number in the range instead of the lower that I meant to put) and I thought they may find that slightly suspicious and check up on it.

Maybe I’m just paranoid…especially since apparently they didn’t worry when they first read my app.

Anyone else? I’m sorry to be annoying, this just makes me really nervous. I don’t want to be perceived as lying, but I can’t prove this and it makes me nervous…

Some colleges do pick out random applications to audit for things like ECs, leadership positions held, etc. But those colleges are rare and the number of applications audited is even rarer. If you actually volunteered, don’t sweat it.

jmds - I also think you can take a deep breath and relax. The body & content of your entire application presents a picture. It is very unlikely that they will focus on a correction to your volunteer hours. Many of the volunteer opportunities are not ones that are easy to verify. The admissions folks go through so many thousands of applications, that only somthing extremely suspicious might pique an inquiry.

It’s very unlikely you would be audited and, if you were, you would just need someone there to say they kept poor records. That’s beyond your control. What would cause someone to lose their spot is if an audit showed that they had point-blanked lied about working somewhere. Really, this is something you can let go. Plus, you probably have all kinds of people who know you that can confirm that you worked at this place – if not the number of hours.
