When I came into high school, I was given a full credit for two semesters of Spanish II and Geometry at a school where I attended for a semester. These classes were unweighted (non-honors) and I got an A in both of them. This adversely affects my GPA and brings down my weighted GPA and therefore my class rank in high school. About 30 in my class have straight A's and all but one unweighted class. Since those two half credits act as one class in theory, I have one extra unweighted class on my transcript which brings my class rank down, and I know at least 10 people who will take all honors/AP/IB classes throughout high school from now on. My question is whether or not I should try to take these classes off my transcript, thereby increasing my GPA and class rank. Though if I keep them on, it will bring my UW up a little bit if I earn a grade lower than an A. There are many teachers that are notorious for having all but a couple of students not receive an A in the class, though the students who do are like myself and I have confidence in earning a 4.0UW. I'm a freshman and I know that the competition will very much separate, but I know that I will be in the top 5% in a group of 700 freshmen. Thanks!

If you’re taking the most advanced classes possible and getting mostly As in them, your class rank will probably be fine regardless of whether Spanish II and Geometry are on your transcript or not (and weighted GPA is only relevant for class rank).

I have the EXACT same scenario! (Except with world history and geo instead of Spanish and geo). I’m thinking of protesting to the school board (with a friend from another HS who has the same problem).
