Do you know why my D’s school GC chooses not to report ranking since my daughter is #17/650? It’s not a bad ranking at all. Does he do it to protect other students who rank low?
Is it school policy not to report rankings? Does the school “officially” rank? Not all do. Seems like a good question for your or your daughter to ask the guidance counselor directly.
He told her the ranking without her asking and that’s why I thought it would be something valuable to present on one’s profile. D will not ask this question because she is a recruited athlete and will not need the ranking to get in the school with her stats when she applies ED. Also it might make her look like an over-achiever. I was just curious about how some GCs work to obtain the best interest for their students.
Some schools dont report rank to colleges as a policy. Ranking can be problematic where students who never challenged themselves can have much higher ranks than students who took every ap class under the son so some schools dont report because it can be distorted.
This is probably school or district policy.
Is it possble it is because D’s school has IB and those students probably take up the top 10%-20% of the class rank and it’s not fair to the non-IB students?
