A question... which do I choose?

So I applied and was accepted to Northwestern, Cornell and Boston University's SMED (7 year liberal arts/med program). I know that I want to pursue a career in medicine, but I'm debating on whether I should go the 7 year route or do the traditional route after attending either northwestern or cornell. Does the prestige and academic opportunties offered by cornell and northwestern outweigh the provision admission to medical school that bu's program does? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It depends on your future plans. Do you see yourself practicing as a clinician or working in academia?

I’m planning on practicing as a clinician.

Omg…I have the same problem. BU Smeds, Harvard, UPenn, and Dartmouth. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be somewhere in Boston, MA…but where?!!
Ah well, at least this is a good problem to have!

I think if you truly want to do medicine the medical program route is the best. Truly in the long run the only that matters is what residency you get into. BU med school definitly has a good rep. So as long as you work hard you should be fine at BU. I would def. go to BU you won’t regret it

idk depends on what you want. if youre just gonna become a gp, then med school really doesnt matter, but if you wanna do something private then name touting can be great for advertising. im doing stuff for a plastic surgeon right now and i think part of the reason he is so successful is because hes ucla/harvard trained.

With respect to reputation of medical school, BU is fine in that department, so matching into a residency, even a relatively competitive one, should not be a problem, unlike say if you had gotten into a much lower tier Bachelor/MD program, which would make the decision relatively easy.

Between Northwestern and Cornell undergrads, personally I would choose Cornell. If you did Cornell, with hard work (like in whichever choice you do make anyways), you could easily get into Northwestern’s school. Both have their own medical schools. Do you have a chance to “take a second look” or get in contact thru phone/email with people in the last year of the BU combined program who just matched? Now that they’ve matched, they should have no qualms about telling you the truth about the program as well as opportunities available in the Boston area.

Cornell is in the Ivy League (their medical school is very well respected) so with respect to quality naturally it will be higher than BU and Northwestern. If you have the ability to get into those schools you really have the ability to do 4+4 if you want at NW or Cornell.
