A Question...

I've applied to UMCP and picked mechanical engineering as an intended major. But right now I want to go into computer science instead. If I do get accepted and if I do attend, is it possible to go into computer science instead?

Hi Greg,
I entered UMCP at the School of Music as a piano performance major. I am now a chemistry major (piano minor). How’s that for a change?
Changing majors is not a big problem. Some programs (LEPs) will have higher standards for transferring in, but if you were good enough to be admitted to the Eng. school, you should be just fine.
If instead you are admitted to Letters and Sciences, then I suggest you take core classes and think about what you want to do for a few semesters. Good luck.

Yea, it’s a lot easier to transfer into Computer Science than to transfer into a engineering program. Btw, the CS program here is great! Just saying

Also, how does one change majors, and when is the earliest possible time to do so?

If I am to change major, I want to do so as soon as possible.

I think you can switch at orientation. Maybe you can email admissions and ask for their input.
