How easy (or is it even possible) to swap majors after you've been accepted? I would ideally want to switch before the first semester (if I even get accepted) but I understand a lot of colleges require you to commit to the major you selected for at least one semester.

If it makes a difference, I'm looking to move from Engineering to Computer Science.

transferring from the engineering school or business school to other schools is very easy… transferring into the business school or engineering school is hard. Think hard before transferring out.

Orbit is right. You can easily find out how to change your major at orientation, because getting out of engineering is really easy. However, I think the Clark School has a policy that once youre out of engineering, you can’t come back into the school, so make sure you’re sure.

Alright, thanks for the info guys. Is Computer Science a LEP like Engineering or is it completely open?

Computer Science is not an LEP. The advising you will get at Orientation is based on the College you are in (Engineering vs. CMNS). If you are sure you want to transfer, it would be better to do prior to attending Orientation so that you start out with advising for the College you are in. If you are not sure (and if collegebound is correct about a policy of not transferring back in), then you need decide whether to do it before starting at UMD or not.
