Hey! Regarding the music portfolio, can self taught musicians also deliver? I can upload the materials except for the obligatory recommendation letter required from a music teacher. So is it advisable to go ahead and submit the portfolio or…?
Hi! I submitted a music portfolio for my application, and was admitted EA. Unfortunately, I am not sure it is possible to submit one without a letter of recommendation. Perhaps there is a school music teacher or someone who knows you well musically that could write one for you? If not, I would encourage you to read this blog post (http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/supplemental_materials) which has some useful advice. You could also always email auditions@mit.edu to ask about their policy.
I submitted an art supplement without having an art class since 8th grade and I was admitted EA as well. Email admissions about the topic! They’ll give you an answer.
Thanks for the clarification guys! @violingirl15 Alright then! And did you make the music resume or did your institution/teacher provide you one? And oh, @Recko, I’m submitting an art supplement too! :3
I made my own music resume, listing previous musical education, awards and scholarships, competitions won, current pieces, etc. It was a relatively easy process and is good practice! Good luck with your application!
