There is no honors or AP US History at my school and I'm required to take it my senior year. However, my counselor pulled me aside and told me to think about the possibility of taking a higher level online from the local community college. Will taking that class be looked as as an AP to admission officers or should I just take it normally. Also, will it even go on my transcripts or my "college transcript"..? Thanks and tell me what you would do?

Not quite, but it still sounds better than taking a regular class. You’re not expected to take AP classes your school doesn’t offer.

It will become part of your permanent college transcript. If you’re getting a high school credit for it, it will also go on your high school transcript.

I’m pretty sure it would count as Dual Enrollment credit. AP on the other hand is standardized, so I would assume that it’s what top tier colleges would prefer. (I can’t say for sure.) Dual Enrollment is still a great opportunity, and if the alternate is taking a standard class, I would recommend it.

When you have the option of taking an AP class or a local college class in the same subject, AP is better. In this situation the OP doesn’t have the choice of taking an AP class, so dual enrollment is all anyone can reasonably expect.
There’s no such thing as a “dual enrollment credit” exactly…dual enrollment just means you’re enrolled in a high school and a college at the same time, and you get both and high school and college credit (or just college credit, in some cases) for the classes you take.

Thanks for the info. You guys hit all the points I was worried about.

I would not recommend taking the class online through a community college. Colleges might view it as more rigorous, but its not worth it. Spend time with your classmates and take it with everyone else. Online classes, in my experience, are a pain in the butt. I oftentimes wish I was in class with my friends. Competitive universities probably won’t see much of difference in a community college course versus regular course in the big picture. Emphasis on big picture.

Well competitive colleges want you to take the opportunities given to you. Since a dual enrollment course available you should take it. The online class is more rigorous than the regular class and that looks better.

The online class wouldn’t necessarily take the OP away from regular school during the day. It could be just an extra thing. But yeah, you shouldn’t take online classes if you’re at all inclined to procrastinate.

I already have taken 2 French online classes and they went well so I’m pretty sure I’ll take it. Since my test scores are a tad above average 25 ACT, I have to do anything I can at this point to put me over the edge into “the land of admittance” haha but well supported arguments on both sides!
