Basically I have a 1520/2240 SAT and a 3.71 (UW) 4.2 (W)GPA. I wrote two really good and effective essays for the Film major in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Applied Economics major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I think the film major is a lot less chosen at Cornell than the business major, so it would increase my chances if I put that first choice, but the College of Arts and Sciences is also probably the most selective and hard to get into school at Cornell. The AEM major is probably more sought after than the film major, plus a lot of recruited athletes would get priority over me, but the CALS is slightly less competitive that Arts and Sciences, which would help since i have a low (for Cornell) GPA.

So the question is which one should I put as my first choice. I'm not trying to game the system, I really would love to do either major, but I also want to put the one that will give me a slightly greater chance of getting in as my first choice. Suggestions, please!

Not an AEM major...but I am a CALS alum...did many admission related programs with CALS adcom members...did many admission panels with an AEM faculty member so I know a few things. They like to see ECs that are applicable to the AEM program. The OPs ECs just seems like he'd have a better shot at admissions to the CAS film program.

There's also a post somewhere on this forum (too lazy to look it up)...but they e-mailed the AEM department and a rep said they like to look at ECs to get a better picture and sometimes those are more important than the numbers.

Oh... b/c I like business and wanna apply to AEM... but I don't really have EC business-related. Though I took a lot of buisness-related courses like AP Statistics, AP Micro, Finance, etc, etc.

Well...if you write a great essay tying in your science interests to AEM...they love that. They just like to see an outgoing and creative person. And good math scores don't hurt :-)
