A safety for Swarthmore?

^ I have researched many of the schools that you mentioned, actually, as well as others a good deal less selective and less intellectual. As for Trinity–I recently talked to a Texas parent whose S is looking at LACs and smaller schools in Texas and surrounding states. She said that Austin and Southwestern were the best small schools in Texas for a serious student; if Trinity is so intellectual, wouldn’t it have more of a regional reputation among people who DO know about LACs? Of course, this is just one sample point and could easily be an anomaly, but in my extensive research of LACs and LAC-like schools, Trinity hasn’t come up nearly as much as comparable schools wrt academics.

Do you, in turn, have particular anecdotal evidence for Trinity being intellectual? I’m certainly open to a new datapoint.

I mentioned Trinity University because what some students there have said about the school sounds much like what students say about Swarthmore: accessible professors who genuinely care about their students, relatively intelligent students who take academics seriously (for a safety school), challenging academics, and nice students for example. Also, a well-known intellectual whom I admire, Jacques Barzun, called that school an excellent liberal arts college. Which is why I recommended it to you.

^ Thanks for the elaboration!
