ok, i really like vanderbilt a lot & its definately up there among my other top choices. my only concern, however, is will it be hard for me to fit in, considering i am an asian. i hear that there are not that many asians in vanderbilt (and thats fine, i dont need to go to a school where i'm surrounded by asians in order to be in a comfort zone). i just dont want to feel left out, or discriminated against.

i have this problem too, the asian population is less than 7%

wait, betterday, are you an applicant or do you actually attend?

Well when I visited, I sat in on several science classes, all of which had >>> 7% asians (sorry if I am perpetuating a stereotype). I think Vanderbilt is overly criticized on diversity issues. Go visit campus for yourself, talk to some of the asians on campus, and ask them what it's like.

neither. But i was considering to apply till i saw that 7%

7% is higher than the percentage of Asians in the United States (4.3%), and significantly higher than the percentage of Asians in Oklahoma (1.92%).

Some of my best friends are Asian, and they love Vandy as much as I do. However, if you went to a HS that was predominately Asian 7% may be an adjustment. During the last admissons cycle, Asian applications increased 22% so the Asian population is growing.

I'd definitely visit and e-mail current students in the AASA.

thanks everyone, as of now i go to a school that is 50% asian, so it would definately be different. as long as there is no racism or anything, i'm fine. and i wasnt just singling out vandy, i was wondering about this for a lot of the other southern schools.
and i plan on visiting the campus during spring break.

I don't understand the complaints regarding "diversity." Unless you're aiming to associate with people of the same race simply because you share that one aspect in common or believe the foolish notion that having the same ethnicity means you'll have similar interests...Vanderbilt has more than enough minorities.

well said, whodunnit.
