A to Z: What To Bring To College

Here it is in 'normal' Excel format:

The entire list complete with my answers of yes/no and my reason behind the decision is on Sheet 1, and MY list of things to bring (handy for guys who don't need makeup, hand cream, etc) is on Sheet 2. My final list is about 120 things, the original list was about 240, to give you an idea of how much I cut. I recommend y'all take the list in Sheet 1, copy it to Sheet 3, and then change the reasoning in the third column so you can print that out and use it as a guide to packing.

Thank you!
what does "weaksauce" mean?

Are stuffed animals on your list?

Weaksauce generally means weak. :)

iceburns - What a weird phrase....
Is it like "awesomesauce?" only the opposite...
Because I've never heard anybody else use it.

Maybe it's a regional thing? We use it a lot out here...

Maybe it IS a regional thing then. In the northeast, I've never heard anybody say it.

Weaksauce is more of an internet meme than anything, I think. I live in the NE, and I only use it around my computer-geeky friends, who use it too.

Werd, it's more of a nerdy thing than a regional thing. Why do you think I said I'm going to engineering school :p.

Very interesting phrase indeed.

haha. Its a good list, but it will only work if you are going to move into a 1 bedroom apartment. Too much even for a studio.

Huh...we say it a lot out here and it's not really considered nerdy.

My dad and brother say it a lot when referring to sports. (ie, guy strikes out at bat, "Oh, weaksauce!")

HisGraceFillsMe - Interesting. I hadn't heard it until this forum discussion.

even though it says not to complain about certain things on the list....i have to complain about bringing a futon. seriously. no one has space for one. don't bring it.

Don't try to bring too much stuff, don't freak yourself out and get a ton of stuff. My roommate did that, and our room was full of boxes of crap for the first month of school, until she ended shipping stuff home. Remember....you have VERY limited space.

Yes, and sometimes the boxes of crap sit around for the entire year (yuck!) Your roommate(s) will appreciate the space more than the stuff.

Yea, the main mistake I made was thinking I needed to buy tons of stuff for college. Obviously, you need towels, bedding, etc...but in essence, besides that you basically already have everything you need.

However, I would suggest a basic first-aid kit...I never thought to buy band aids until I needed one. Also, get a small sewing kit, its inevitable that a button will fall off or you'll get a rip in your clothes.

I think I actually thought of something that wasn't on the list: a usb thing to save things on!

This is a great list of things to consider taking, but a lot is un-needed. I plan on going with my bedding, study supplies, clothing, makeup, and most of the things I use every single day. I figure that I can take things as I need them. Another good thing about not taking everything on move in day (assuming you live close enough to make another trip) is that you won't have much to carry up the stairs and through the crowded halls. I plan on taking the majority of my things about 1-2 weeks after I move in.

I agree with OKgirl...

If I had to do it over again, I would just buy the basics...anything else you need can be bought while you're at school.

However, I would stock up on basics over the summer, especially if you have to pay for everything yourself. I bought tons of shampoo, soap, laundry detergent...ect. Its nice to have extra of that kind of stuff so you don't have to buy it constantly.

pfft... pothead. lmao...
great list though. most def. going to make use of most of it.

hahah it says to bring a torah. FTR, you'd bring a tanach, not a torah.
