Comfortable t-shirts were a lifesaver for me during college. Get some cool ones at [Yetteez T-Shirts, Quality designer tees](http://www.yetteez.com). Their tees are all American Apparel super soft.

I loved my comfortable t-shirts in college - great for hanging around the dorm or around campus. Funny, cool and retro tees always get a second look or a laugh. I found some cool ones at [Yetteez T-Shirts, Quality designer tees](http://www.yetteez.com) - unique tees you can’t find everywhere.

What if you are going to an all girls college? What do you need to bring then?

^Why would anything be different?

just asking. you know sometimes things change in a different college setting. but anyway what is the best website for a packing list?

Just go with the list on the first page of the thread. It covers everything you need.

This list is very helpful. I have been freaking out about what my son was going to bring so bad. Nothing needs to be removed from the master list. Great :)

Do not go to college with a car without being a member of AAA. [www.aaa.com redirect](http://www.AAA.com)

Forgive me if this was already posted, I read about the last 5-6 pages of posts.
Bed Bath and Beyond will accept coupons, (even expired ones), you can go to a local store, ask for a scanner and list of dorm supplies. You scan the exact items you want and they will be waiting for you at a store close to campus, you can change your mind on items and pay when you pick them up. Don’t forget a surge protector and laptop lock. Please check your housing agreement at your college, they usually list items NOT allowed in dorms.

Wow, that list was extremely comprehensive! Many thanks to the OP!!!

This list is so helpful

Hahahaha, wow. I’ll try and fit all of this alphabet into my luggage when i come over to the USA (I’m British, studying at UMaine for a year… Anybody starting UMaine Fall 2012 get in touch!! )

For British exchange students may I add:
Jar of Marmite
-At least 550 PG tips
-A metre of jaffa cakes
-A union flag (if only to add to the stereotype and to wear as a cape when ‘underage drinking’ all the Americans to the floor)
-Union jack bunting to stick all over the place and **** off your room mate.

Do you recommend buying certain things on bulk like way before? Would it be convinient to but things like bed sheets whenever they go on sale even if it’s like many months before you leave?

ProbablyLucky…save some packing space…you can buy PG tips in the US

I should say. This list in incomplete. haha.

But really. Rain gear isn’t on the list.

I definitely did not go to school with rain-boots. I did not think about it.

Then I found out the hard way. We have major, major, major flooding issues. I’ve lived in South Carolina my whole life and had never once been told about how much it rains in Columbia or how prone the campus is to major flooding.

I now own rainboots, a rain jacket, and an umbrella. xD

So the important thing: When looking at a college, definitely ASK about the weather and any special considerations needed for your school in particular!

Laptop !

More then enough

I would like to add a shower bag/tote - a nice, big bag to fit towels, clothes, etc.

Great list! I came across this site http://www.whatyouneedforcollege.com/ it has covers what to bring to college with a list and some important item for college reviews. I found it pretty helpful and thought you all might as well.

To add under the letter “M” category: MUCINEX is a must! I hate being THAT person coughing in the lecture hall.

Too bad I can’t fit this is my dorm room O_O let alone my car
