A to Z: What To Bring To College

It’d be easier to buy at a store near your school rather than bring it.

Are earplugs somewhere on here? You never know how much you need them until you do.

Gidget- Noise cancelling earphones work really well for ear plugs if you have them.

uwrobi- Noise cancelling earphones are not good to sleep with. I had a roommate who was perfect in nearly every way, except she snored. Earplugs.

Great advice…bump!

FYI: UC Berkeley Roommate(s) Assignments out online right now. Plus Cal Move-In Day (8/20-21/11, 10-5pm) info:

UPDATE: As of 8/7/11 2:35pm PST, the UC Berkeley Roommate Assignment website is STILL down making it unable for students to check their roommate assignment.

UC Berkeley Roommate Assignment is up and running!

I thought this might be relevant to people who are still shopping for dorm stuff.

[Furnish Your Dorm Room For Under $100 - Yahoo! Shopping](http://shopping.yahoo.com/articles/yshoppingarticles/656/furnish-your-dorm-room-for-under-100/)

It’s funny, an iPhone can replace over 20 of these things =D

My college sent me a list of suggested things to bring, but looking through this list helped me find some things that hadn’t been included. Very helpful!

Sure seems like we have too much. Here is our list:
laptop
printer
paper ink
all the otc meds you can imagine
lamps, rug, misc dorm stuff
new backpack (needed it bad)
all the school supplies imaginable
bike on a new bike rack
plastic storage containers x 2
xl sheets comforter etc.
mattress pad
tool kit he already had
and needless to say IPHONE
of course his clothes
a jacket we never use in Miami but in Gainesville he will need it.
we are renting a 5 cft frigde $65 / year drop off and del

So what do you think?

My brother told me to bring a small toolkit so I went out and bought one today.

Only 2 weeks left <3!

Love this post…

This is really helpful for remembering what you need when you’re living on your own in college! Except, I probably wouldn’t bring all this stuff, I’d just buy it when I get there, because that would be a hell lot of luggage.

Props to all those listed above. I STRONGLY advise you bring an additional plug in alarm clock. Even with cell phones and Iphones its easy to accidentally set it to PM, or forget to turn it “on” or as the ware and tare happens to our phone (inevitably) it just won’t go off…I slept through an exam once because my cell phone alarm just didn’t go off. Having 2 alarms insures you for the most part, recommend one without a snooze button. Bring a tiny (even pocket size) handy book to write down your class schedule, important numbers, your parking vethrol number, etc…Even though this is all stored electronically for the most part, internet goes down, things just dont work, etc. Thus its important to have those things stored for ‘just in case sake’ Get to know where your closest Walmart, Target, Walgreens (or any 24 hour like pharmacy/store) your’ll likely become a semi-regular customer at all hours. One nice tip I did that someone passed down. Take a $5 bill and tape it under your dorm desk. Your never when you will need quick cash.

One idea for the international students fretting (and understandably so) would be to google “study abroad packing list”, or something of the like. I figure that the packing restraint that plane travel would impose would be better reflected in that sort of list.
This list is fab, and very thorough. I’ll whittle this down and keep it on hand for the summer.

Great list but what about scissors

Sent from my SPH-M910 using CC

This is really excellent. I’m nervous about heading off to college for summer session and was ignorant of the things I should bring. Of course it would be too strenuous to bring everything on this list but it’s definitely a start to what I need to add to my list of going-off-to college. Thank you immensely.
