AMEN...that's all i got to say

I read a story about Tonya Harding. An olympic skater. A perfect story of how integrity shows in the future. She paid someone to take out her competitor's knee in an olympic match. ANd she was caught. Fined, and banned for a looong time from skating. She then went to boxing, and then to the porn industry. Pretty messed up huh? All because of one little mistake that was because she had no character.

I understand what you are saying. But you have to realize that sometimes it just pays to be a little dirty. Integrity is what you make of it. Sometimes it really just is survival of the fittest. I hate to say it man, but integrity can be overrated.

I am shocked that people are so surprised to hear that honors kids cheat. In my high school the majority of honors kids are horrible cheaters and I just assumed that this sort of carries over to all high schools. I have talked with several teachers and they all confirmed that they catch the most cheaters in their honors and AP classes. It really makes you stop and think for a minute since it is all of the honors kids that win the massive scholarships and win admittance into top colleges. Personally I don't even blame these students anymore. Cheating is nothing but a byproduct of America's weakened value system. There is such a huge drive to achieve and be the best that most kids can't handle the stress. Those that can have exceptional character. Also it doesn't really come as a surprise that the honor system in America is failing. Just look at our political leaders and how they blatently lie to push personal agendas. If kids don't have strong and supportive parents they will be looking to these leaders as role models. Even when these leaders get caught in a lie most of them never get punished. I don't think we should focus so much on the problem as on the solution. The cheating problem will only get worse unless someone actively tries to fix it.

cheating just makes me so disappointed, especially when its honors students.
like i knew for a fact that some kids cheated and STILL got into NHS, and when i casually mentioned something to the pres of NHS, she looked at me like "we know its happening, but we ignore it"

yay! for integrity

uh i know some kid who forged his transcript and got into Emory's 5 year MBA undergrad program. he was ranked top 50% of his hs class.

so yeah hes basically better than u all. hope you hold on to your integrity when ure living in a garbage shed.

education in this country is all bs

who said you had to lie to get into a top college. I was perfectly honest on my college app and by some miracle, I made it into Rice. I may be a little to idyllic but I believe that you will be rewarded if you do the right thing.

Cheating really doesn't bother me. I don't really understand why it makes everyone here so angry to be honest. I don't cheat. A long time ago I used to try, but it was something I grew out of. Really, others cheating isn't affecting anyone else. It's all how people choose to get to a certain point. Their cheating isn't what's keeping you out of your school, or keeping you from getting good grades.

In my opinion education should be about one of two things. Either it should be strictly about getting into college or it should be about the experience of learning. If your central reason for going to school is the former then you should cheat if it helps you. To be honest, if all you care about is the ends then use whatever means you can to realize them. If, however, your reason is the latter (as I would hope it would be) then you are competing against yourself, not others. To me this is really what education is about, doing ones best and learning all one can. If your orientation is truly this then it shouldn't matter what others around you are doing.

Cheating does affect other people indirectly. Colleges do not have an infinite student body - they are forced to reject someone somewhere. If this person didn't cheat and got a 3.5 while someone who got a 3.75 by cheating (while he would have gotten a 3.0) was accepted, then the first person is affected by the second.

One cheater might not make a difference, but there are many defrauding their way through high school and college. If someone is rejected as a result, then their rewarding experience of learning is diminished.

I know for a fact that I and one other person are the only people not to have cheated in my grade. One of my teachers is handicapped and in a wheelchair. Other students take advantage of this by placing open books on the floor and employing elaborate mirror systems. She isn't helping the problem either - two students turned in the SAME 25 page research paper that they had gotten from a previous student. She cried while lecturing us about integrity and then gave them both C's because if they had done the work, she thought they would have gotten B's. She refused to notify the administration because she did not want anything on their official transcript. In my opinion, colleges deserve to know what sort of students they are admitting.

people who blame kids who cheat for their problems are just finding ways to justify their loserly status.

seriously, go find something better to do with your time. this world doesnt work on integretity no matter how much you think it does. life f's us all.

And that, my friends, is a cynic's point of view.

I prefer the idealistic/optimistic one. That's the only way things'll ever improve in this world. :]

Sometimes these type of things makes me ponder whether there is a god. Why does god leave so many unpunished, and let the honest suffer. Is there truly a god who grants divine retribution, or are we all stuck in this sick cycle of competition thru any means?

ever_after. I Agree. I don't want to seem like a snitch or rat, because I'm not one. But it's very unfair to the people who lost spots because they didn't cheat. I have chances to cheat on tests and stuff, but I don't becuase it's the right thing. Don't pull that "Life is unfair" crap on me. I know it's unfair, but this is wrong. =/
