A-Typical Situation, Need Guidance.

Hi,

So, 25, I returned to school. I am a Psych major, hardworking, trying to figure out how high I can go.

Half way through my first semester at Long Beach City College, I have a 4.0 solidified by extra credit. I have more than 100% in 3 out of 4 of my classes.

My past: I have worked full-time since I was 15. I come from an alcoholic home, and begun my own recovery from alcoholism 9 months ago. I am the first of my family to go to college. Before doing so, I travelled to France. I lived there for 5 years and earned a vocational degree in Film and Audiovisual Technology. I am Bilingual.

Now, attending LBCC, I am working 27 hours a week, and doing very well.

I want to go to the best school I can. I am looking at UCLA, then UCI, then UC Davis.

I plan to earn my Psy.D or Ph.D.

Money is a huge issue for me. I am putting myself through school and wondering what financial help a great GPA can get me. I am setting up an appointment to talk with our Honor's program counselor, and will concretely be accepted into the honor's program soon.

What do I need to do to get into a great school? How can I get the financial help I need?

I'm a hard worker, and I know I can get the grades. But this planning is beyond me. I know nothing of the US educational/collegiate systems.

Thank-you for any insight.
