A way to combine computer science with medicine/biology?

I am entering college next year with a major in computer science. However, I am also interested in working in the medical field. I've heard of biomedical engineering and bioinformatics and things like those, but those seem to deal more with hardware than programming.

Is there any way to combine CS and something bio-related?

Biomedical engineering. You don’t necessarily have to work on robotics and programming applied to medical instruments. There are many fields in BME that rely heavily on just pure programming, such as modeling. You should look into systems biology. Just be aware of the fact that jobs may be hard to come by when you get out, but if you are a good programmer, you should be able to do something non-bio related. If you are going to work in a field that is not medically related in the end, is it really worth studying BME? Ask yourself what you are going to be really dedicated to.

I’ve heard of programmers that graduated from our BME program that did systems bio related stuff end up with jobs at places like microsoft or google. You can bet your butt they’re making 6 figures. But again, they’re probably not even doing anything related to what they studied…

Thanks for the input! I might consider biomed engineering.

Some schools have computational biology majors.
