So I applied for Emory Scholars and sent all my stuff in a single envelope...so nothing should've been lost...I've been checking OPUS since Nov 1 and there are still 3 items listed as "initiated"!

I know Emory Scholars semifinalist notifications come out mid to late January, so I was worried that I wouldn't even be in the running because stuff was still "missing."

I called the Admissions Office and spoke to a very brusque lady who told me since I was applying RD, I shouldn't be concerned at all. She basically brushed me off.

Should I be worried??
I'd resend but the things that are missing are the Scholar Nomination Forms which were in the envelope and I obviously can't duplicate =/

Don't worry about it. Updating OPUS is always slow in the admission office for some reason. It's probably there, but not updated. However, just to be sure, call back and ask for the admission counselor who is in charge of your state/region (look online) or who you have spoken with in the past. If you ask for someone by name, that person might be able to help more than whoever you spoke with. Keep in mind it's still between semesters, so some people could be on vacation still.

I hate to re-start this but in case any '14s happen to stumble across this and wonder…

as it turned out, Emory Admissions actually lost several items in my file. I waited and waited, assuming they were just taking a long time to update OPUS. They waited until 24 hrs before everything for Emory Scholars was due to let me know I had to immediately Fed-Ex duplicates of the materials I had sent but were now missing.

So, if there are any Scholars prospective applicants out there who feel uncomfortable waiting…trust your instincts. Ask them to physically check and make sure they have everything (they will do this if your guidance counselor calls them). And don’t pay attention to the woman at the front desk whose job it is to tell everyone not to worry and just sit tight. haha. Sometimes you just have to be pushy.

Thank you for the heads-up!(and good luck at school this fall) One more question: By what date, in your opinion, should a student have his/her guidance counselor contact Emory if the items aren’t updated on OPUS?
