Socioeconomic Status

TutuTaxi:
I did a Google search on 'SES acronym'. There were several candidates, but Socio-Economic Status seems most likely in the CC domain.

I am certainly getting an ed on this CC thingy....i never nu there were so many acronyms on the face of the earth....sometimes i think we are speaking another language:confused:

Not that my DD has to worry that she has a PLOS since I never would understand what she was iming anyway!!! "I M ing" (instant messaging) for you newbies ;)

How about this...since I am a Parent with nothing else better to do but dream up inane things to do with my time:rolleyes: :eek: I can't help but :) at the :confused:look at the faces of the parents who read these posts and get :mad: when they think their :cool: kids shouldn't get :p rejected from their :) favorite schools only to discover after talking to their :cool: kids that they didn't want to go there anyway :D ;) :o

Where are the men in the white coats????

Dear moderator, wouldn't it be a great idea to consolidate these and put them on a "sticky" as a list of commonly used CC abbreviations?

BTW, has anyone encountered an abbreviation for one of my favorite CC phrases - "prestige whore?"

Why in the world would you want to abbreviate that, yulsie? :D (To answer your question, no; it's pretty standardly said straight out.)

In relation, however: TTT. I don't see it much here, but it is on other certain boards a lot and you may run across it. It stands for Third Tier Toilet (or various other things) and is basically used to say 'my school is better than yours,' as in (from urbandictionary.com) "UC Berkeley is a TTT. MIT all the way!"

gf=girlfriend
bf=boyfriend

What a lively expression! Certainly it merits all of its vowels consonants. I work with students a bit too young to actually be focused on "prestige," but we do have some who are grade obsessed: They surge through the school week gobbling up top grades; anything less than a top grade is a death sentence. We call them the grade sharks.

mamacita-- re: Grade sharks--we called them pre-meds :)

btw-- where are all the 76er fans? Don't you know AI= Allen Iverson?

SO = Significant Other (husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.)

AI = Artificial Intelligence :P

I'm not gettin' the AI joke because I'm older than dirt, but I have used it a few times on CC for Artificial Intelligence...becaue I know someone who is majoring inthe subject at Edinburgh

TBOES - The Beatles on Ed Sullivan

BTW, "IVY" league colleges have NOTHING to do with the "IVY" plants adorning the outside of the brick buildings. Found that out on every IVY league school tour we took! :)

OTOH - On the other hand

OE-Overseas experience, another word for Gap Year. UK origins.

OMG - This has been a very enlightening thread. Thank you all! It is appreciated by one not so experienced
