Well, the poster said it was his/her friend (not him/herself) who got off the waitlist…there is always the chance that there was some miscommunication between them.

Were the emails supposed to be sent to: ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu as per the letter for students who were waitlisted? I never received a confirmation email. I doubt I’ll be taken in off the waitlist, but I’d like for my letter to at least be read since I did put time into it.

I sent mine to both ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu and the guy who is in charge of my region, in my case the guy head of international applicants. I didn’t get a confirmation from the first but he sent me one saying that they were still processing!

I didn’t get a confirmation either, but called and they have it… is it true that it could take up to July 1st to find out?

Apparently the other Emory guy said his friend was taken off from SEAS? I think? Do you think they started for CC? Also, how many people do you think they waitlisted this year?

What I’m confused about is that if the Admissions Committee specifically stated they only wanted a one page or less letter at most, wouldn’t it be against their wishes to make a video or send anything extra?

How can people get off the waitlist if it’s still May 1st, the yield would have to be ridiculously under what was expected.

I think pretty much all colleges only want a letter or award updates, but in my opinion the video is an effort to stand out because I highly doubt that many other people, if any, completed a video. What I also understand is this; do the admissions officers actually reread every single waitlist application? They probably don’t, so some may want to do something very out of the ordinary to at least get noticed in the vast waitlist pool.

*don’t understand

Well, I would have made a video or done something creative, but felt it wasn’t allowed. Is creativity good when it goes against the wishes of the admissions office?

I don’t think anything’s “not allowed” per say…i looked up the faq for waitlist and they said that they encourage a one page letter and not encouraged to submit additional letters of recommendation. It didn’t say that they were ONLY allowed to submit a letter, so I would say that her video won’t be “against the wishes” of the admissions office. It shows her creativity.

^ Fair point.

BTW, if people would have started getting off of the waitlist wouldn’t there be more posts about it? Just a thought.

Actually I didn’t think about that. Perhaps they haven’t started for CC yet? The guy who got the email/call was SEAS apparently.

I heard from a different thread that there would be 2 waves of admissions. Wave 1 by May 7th and Wave 2 by May 14th with stragglers later. Is this true?

Could you please provide a link to the thread? from my observation, I think the waves of acceptances from waitlist from previous years were quite irregular. I believe that the first acceptances were given around 4th or 5th of may.

Oh and question for those who submitted the letter: Did you guys attach the letter on the email as a pdf or just pasted the letter as content of the email? I attached a pdf file but my parents think I should have just put it inside the email itself…

The decision letter says “we typically notify candidates no earlier than May 15th and no later than July 1st.”

That’s what they say every year but they still notify the acceptances much earlier.

@unlocked, I sent it as a pdf attachment, I’m sure that it doesn’t make much of a difference!

So how do candidates typically find out if they get off the waitlist? Phone call? Email?

From what I can tell from previous threads its email …

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/1108503-washu-will-accepting-students-off-waitlist-year-3.html… this is the waves link, but I’d like confirmation on it. I attached my letter
