About Boarding School Review

Thought this information might help explain some of the data we see from the site. It seems how up to date the information about a certain school is really depends on how "diligently" that school updates its info on the site. And supposedly any information posted on that site is accurate as it comes directly from the school.

About Us
Boarding School Review provides a unique look into college-preparatory and junior boarding schools. We are the first and only service to offer alumni reviews, detailed school profiles, and interactive tools to help families research college-preparatory boarding schools. Our service saves applicants and their families a lot of time, but more importantly, gives them better information to make the best possible boarding school decisions.

Boarding School Review was founded by two boarding school alumni who never forgot the difficulties they faced when they were applying to boarding schools. Information was - and still is - sometimes hard to find. Comparing data between schools can be a difficult, time-consuming process. Independent, alumni reviews of a school are also tough to come by without personal contacts. Boarding School Review aims to help solve these problems.

The two founders happened to find boarding school as one of the most influential, positive experiences they've had. As you read the independent alumni reviews, you'll also find that boarding school alumni generally agree - going to boarding school can be one of the best decisions you'll make. Finding the best school for you is the next step, and we hope we can help.

How the Site Works:

Schools directly update the information on our site at regular intervals, to help provide the most current data for families. Schools also promptly respond to inquiries sent from our site, so that families can conveniently use our standardized forms to ask schools questions and receive free informational materials.

Our site aims to present its data, descriptions, and visuals in an impartial way that helps families gain a broader understanding of each school. Boarding School Review does not (and will not) offer an overall ranking of schools. We believe that there is no overall "best" school, as every student's needs and preferences are different. By making use of the information on our site, families will arrive at a more appropriate school choice than if they had relied on an overall ranking of schools.

Mission:

To educate and energize families about college-preparatory boarding schools and the opportunities they offer. By providing information that is insightful and up-to-date, we help families make better educational choices. By making our research free, we invite all families into the school search process and help make boarding school as accessible as possible.

That is - up to the time the school profile was updated. The date of profile last updated is specified at the end of the “School Notes” section.

My understanding is that the schools have to pay for uploading current information. Many of the schools have very old data on them.

I didn’t know the schools had to pay. Isn’t it an ad supported site? Anyway, I only checked a few schools’ profiles. Some were updated as recent as in July/Aug. this year, and others were updated sometime last year. I think we should remind people to look at the “profile last updated” date at the end of “School Notes” section before using the data for a school.

The numbers on boardingschoolreview can be used for a preliminary review. It’s best not to base your final list of schools on bsr’s numbers. Even with updates listed, some things can be incorrect or missing. For example, SAT scores listed for Peddie are Average SAT Score 2000
SAT range (25th-75th percentile) 1720 - 2030
No way does it have an average SAT score of 2000, but a 25%-75% range of 1720-2030
The Blair information was just updated, but now their average SAT score, % of faculty with graduate degrees, and % acceptance is missing. They used to provide that info, and they have nothing to hide in those areas. Perhaps an oversight by the inputer?

Anyway, I rate bsr as helpful, but use with caution.

Wonder if anyone has tried using the “standardized forms” to get errors corrected and/or request additional information from schools.

I noticed some severely outdated and perhaps entirely incorrect info on Andover’s page, and I emailed boardingschoolreview to correct the information, most specifically Andover’s average SAT score, which for some reason they had as 2008. The site now cites it as 2076, the figure I sent in the email. I think the site has no problem with user contributions as long as you can point to an accurate source, which in my case was Andover’s 2008 academic profile.
