About ECs- Do you really need to win awards and such ?

Well, some people mentioned about the importance of passion. What if, Im not a Intel ISEF finalist and all those prestigious awards but i showcase passion without winning awards(for example). well, can i have some opinions on this?

one more thing, i see many people here have similar things like national honor society etc. (me being in Singapore do not have access to such societies).. well does having unique ECs(of course going deep into it but again not winning awards) help?

well to give a better idea of what im interested in, im actually quite fond of doing a business , economics , law or public relations sort of courses.. wad ECs would be nice? and thanks alot in advance. i appreciate your help guys :)

Valour, I just replied to the thread in the Intl Students forum, perhaps you want to take a look at it.

Unless you're aiming for Harvard or MIT and the likes, you don't need to win awards.

Of course US unis realize the difference in the education system of overseas schools, so don't worry about the honor societies. Unique ECs will help, but that depends on how you package it and sell it to the admission committee. A unique EC without passion and proper packaging won't help much. (By packaging, means how you describe what you did to the admission committees - for e.g. through your essays - and how is it "unique" to you and how it could add to the diversity of the uni and stuff... You get the drift?)
