i've herad from one of my friends that p2p is strictly banned in some colleges and that ucla kicked 9 students out they found p2p software (like limewire, kazaa, etc) in their laptop and/or pc... is it banned in uiuc? or is it a law? (i know its amoral to dl songs for free and all.. but who doesnt use it?)

It is discouraged and monitered. Last year my roommate was sharing some song and the RIAA sent our resident director an e-mail. Our internet was shut down for a few days, we met with the RD and he just gave us a warning. If it happens twice, your internet is turned off for the rest of the semester. But you will most likely only get caught if you are uploading files. To download, some people use limewire, most use myTunes or ourTunes, and there is a program on campus that lets people share files, but it was shut down for most of last year.
