About putting down a favored major in college application.

Hi, im new to CC here and about to become a hs senior the end of the month.
i have started my common app and have some general questions about it. they might seem slightly obvious or should've been common sense to me but i have been hearing too many things from all kinds of sources I want to make sure about them with experienced people.
So i have heard that people who go undecided on their major do not look good since they do not appeared to be determined and have no idea what they want to do in the future. Is it true that college will prefer people who have a major/filed decided? Cuz in my mind college is a place where you explore yourself and develop more interests.
Secondly, I know it's always good to have good grades in the courses that are related to the field you intend to go after. Like getting an A in AP chem for someone who wants to go biochem and such. So in my case, because I have lived abroad due to various reason for a long time, I am fluent in their language. In addition to that, I have picked up another language to learn about 3-4 years ago and now I'm fluent at it as well. Because I am a very average student in a very competitive school, my grades SATs and ECs dont stand out at all, I am thinking about appealing to the colleges im applying to with my language skills. I have received over 750 on both of the languages' SAT II and 5s on the APs and of course good grades in the courses as well. However, at my school everyones obsessed with all the science APs and doubling tripling them. Though I'm taking AP science and math as well but i feel like the languages are so useless and they arent gonna get me to anywhere. I just really want to know if this whole appealing my language skills thing would really help me at all. And when i say appealing, i mean mentioning them possibly in my essays and relate them to the community services I have done.
Another thing on top of that is that my true interested field as my future career/occupation isnt really these languages but psychology and computer science. I would really want to be in either of the majors but i dont really think i have a shot in them with my average scores and grades. So what i have in mind right now, is to put down one of the languages (that i picked up the latest, which i have never lived in that country before) as my major. Because I feel like I have a bigger chance of getting into the schools im applying this way. And maybe later I can double majoring psychology or computer science after I enter the school. Is this even possible?

I know i am very wordy and this has been a long post but I'm really worried right now and just trying to be as specific as possible. It's highly appreciated if someone can answer my questions and give me some advice on that i feel so lost.

Thanks in advance!!! ><

Some schools consider all applicants in one big pool and admit them undeclared, to declare major later. Others consider applicants as applying to a specific major, admitting them declared. Others have different policies based on which division (e.g. the arts and science division may do the former, while the engineering division may do the latter). And in some cases, one may have to apply to declare the major after one has been enrolled for a year or two at the school, if the major is very popular but has only limited space available.

So the answer to your question tends to be very school-specific.

Also, in schools with impacted majors (supply of courses is less than the demand to take them), students who have declared majors in that area have higher preference to get into those classes. This does not mean they are stuck in that major, BTW.

I am curious about this as well. Where on common app, is it clear what major you want to apply to?

please can someone help… im dying to know this.
