about recommendations.....

<p>hey how do your recommenders know what to write in your letter of recommendation..do you just simply hand them a resume? or do you meet up with them, like during lunch, to talk about stuff so they can know more about you? cuz at my school every senior is supposed to hand in a resume for all the recommenders, and i did too, but i was wondering if i should go talk to the teachers in addition to that as welll...</p>

<p>Your intuition is correct. The most valuable recs are those that have specific and memorable anecdotes about you in terms of academic achievement, class room leadership or other remarkable feats or interactions. </p>

<p>If all your teachers do is recite info found on your resumes, then I can tell you right now that they have very little value to the schools that really evaluate them (many colleges don’t require LORs at all or at least, they are just perfunctory).</p>
