…I would like to submit my portfolio as part of my application. The website explains that Brown accepts either prints or slides of visual works. Wouldn’t it just be easier for them to also accept portfolios and whatnot through the internet–sending either a link or files–or on CD? I really would like to send my work digitally because I have everything on the computer.
…I have tried to contact the admissions office through email and telephone, but I can understand why they might have been too busy around this time.
…If anyone might be able to tell me whether or not Brown will accept visual work on disc or by other digital means, please tell me.

No. They will only accept what they say they will accept, and that is slides or prints. I think that's probably because of the way they (single or in committee, I don't know) look at the work. They may amass a pile and go through it all in one sitting, or something like that. My D submitted slides last year. She was, however, able to submit a DVD for consideration to skip into Advanced Foundation Studio at the beginning of this semester; she was accepted to that class. So your DVD will not go to waste, if you are accepted and if you choose to go that route.

There are lots of services on the internet to do the conversion for you - you submit over the internet and they mail you the CD. My daughter did the same thing, all her work is digital too, but slides is what they accept!

Okay, thank you for your answers
I would do slides, but my work is mainly digital painting, not photography or traditional work so I do not have the resources
Instead I will try to find a printer with enough ink
:)
I just hope they will get there in time for ED!
Again, thank you!

oops, I meant to say the internet services will send you the slides! anyway, looks like you decided on prints...fyi if you change your mind, cost is about $1/slide.

Okay,
Thanks, Ailey. I am looking into slides right now to see how long they take to send back. I might have enough time for them.
Also I have just managed to make a successful call about supplementary deadlines. For anyone who might be wondering, ED portfolio or art material can be received after Nov 1, and it will still be reviewed. It is not crucial as the main parts of the app, so I guess they're not too strict about it. Maybe that was a stupid question...but you never know.
:)

It's not a stupid question...I just went to the post office and sent supplementary material overnight delivery for my child who is applying ED. Some of the deadlines are "postmark" but the supplementary deadlines imply "in office." We weren't sure, so I paid the express mail fee.

If you have digital files in a jpeg format you should be able to upload it to your local WalMart for either overnight or one hour printing. If you can burn the files to a CD, flashdrive, or camera memory card, the Kodak kiosks will accept those. Just be careful on your image size-we had a problem with the images being cropped.

Well, as long as you know they'll get there. Then that's good.
:)
And, I have now figured out that I am doing prints through the local BestBuy service so I won't have to spend sixty dollars on ink. Thanks for the advice, I will be wary of cropping then!
Goodluck to you and your child as well with ED!
