About the Alumni emails...

Hey, I've been getting a bunch of e-mails from Caltech alumni b.c. I got accepted.

My mom's on my ass about not replying to them. I beleive that there is no need to reply to them since they say "feel free to contact me if you have any questions," and I don't have any.

What do you think? Should I reply? Say "thank you" or something? Seems silly to me, but I guess I should ask just in case.

I'd reply (assuming you'll probably attend, or are seriously considering attending). In a couple of years, you'll be looking for an internship opportunity, and it's remotely possible that a contact who's an enthusiastic alum could be helpful in landing one.

One of the advantages of attending an elite college is that you'll have the opportunity to develop good contacts - this could be the start of your Rolodex, or, more likely, your contact database.

Assuming you haven't been inundated with dozens of these, it would be courteous to acknowledge the emails under any circumstance. I'd probably thank them for getting in touch, and perhaps ask a simple question about their experience at the school, suggestions related to your field of interest, etc.

Hmmm anyone other opinnions? Or rather, any good ideas for questions? I don't know what to ask them and not sound stupid... tbh I don't find there's much to ask.

Thanks

I really want to be in your position. It's not hard to blast of an e-mail to just say something like thank you for contacting me, I'm really greatful for all your help, I will contact you if I have any questions, or ask some questions. Just a thank you is perfect.
