I want to talk to an alumnus or current sophomore student who studied/studies Architecture in Cal Poly Pomona. I want to know what happens during each year and if there is ever a time you go outside of the university for research and stuff. And what happens once u graduate?
It’s been a while since I graduated but I can tell you the school still values research and travel. There are several class field trips to places like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, the Southwest and countless trips to LA neighborhoods. There are year long overseas programs in Italy, Japan and shorter ones in other countries. The school own the Neutra VDL house which is a historic Mid Century Modern house by a renowned architect who also taught at CPP back in the day. Students get involved in restoring and operating the house as it is a very iconic place to visit by designers around the world. I always thought the program was well balanced. You can choose your focus on design, technology, sustainability etc. You used to be required to do a internship before graduation. The industry really knows and appreciates this about CPP Arc graduates.
Thank you for the information! And what about the salary after u graduate?
Salaries start in the high 40’s. Not high, but that’s the industry average for interns. You’ll find out, you don’t become an architect for the money. If that’s important, you may want to look at other fields such as engineering or IT.
I may be a bit outdated on the salary figure…
THANKS SO MUCH
